What are air source heat pumps?
A Heat Pump is a device that is used to transfer heat from one place to another i.e. they transfer the heat from the source to the sink. The heat pumps are devices that are used in many appliances of home use i.e. to say air conditioners, refrigerators, water heaters etc. Heat pumps are of many types. One of the types is the air source heat pumps. The air source heat pumps are a kind of heat pump which extracts the heat from the air. At other times, the heat is also released in the air when the heat pump has to perform the function of cooling.
Air source heat pumps are so named as in these pumps, both the sink as well as the source is the air. The air outside always has some heat stored in it. The air source heat pumps extract this heat from the air and use it to perform their function of heating or cooling. When the temperature of the atmosphere falls below zero degrees Celsius, there is no heat left in the atmosphere and it is in this case that most kinds of air source heat pumps stop working.
